Civil society organizations play a crucial role in service provision in the Palestine. However, the ability of universities and hospitals, especially, to provide quality services is often hindered by extremely high electricity costs. Through this project, FFP addressed this issue by installing a 70 kW solar PV plant on the campus of the Arab American University of Jenin. The AAU-J has over 8,500 students in its different colleges and departments. Before the project, its monthly electricity bill reached about $30,000 and was steadily rising with the continued growth of the university. Half of the money saved on university electricity bills as a result of this new electricity generation is allocated to the Poor Students Fund, and the other 50% towards scientific research at the university.
